Wishing you a peaceful and relaxing holiday. 

General Flatware Production Update: 

It has been a very busy month since this campaign ended. It is a little early to know about delivery details, but we have been making solid progress. Here's a breakdown of production events (as well as a rough timeline estimate in parentheses) to keep you well informed on the progress of your GoSun Flatware.  

Final Design 1) With final tweaks were made in November, and we have been opening molds for most of this month (Nov-Dec 2019) 

First Molds 2) First Setback: The first set of molds were cut and used to make samples in early December but they were a bit too soft to handle the tough 301 stainless steel. So, we are currently cutting the second set of tools (Dec 2019)

Second Molds 3) Once those tools are ready, we will produce several samples, send them off for metal finishing and begin testing (Late Dec 2019) 

Sample Testing 4) During the initial production sample testing, we typically find areas of improvement and minor changes are brought into the final production tooling (Early Jan 2020)

Production Tweaks 5) Final production tweaks are made and final production samples are produced and tested to meet standards (Mid Feb 2020)

Production Run 6) Production, finishing, assembly and packaging happens fast once everything is fine tuned (Late Feb 2020)

Delivery 7) Logistics and fulfillment to get GoSun Flatware sent out to you (Estimated Late Feb, into March)

Delivery Timeline Summary:  If all goes perfectly, we will ship in Feb. 2020, but our experience tells us to build in some flexibility when on the cutting edge.  It is best not to create a hard expectation for your shipping deadline at this time. More details to come as available.

During the first week of December, all backers will have access to the BackerKit Add-On Survey, including reduced shipping for additional Flatware sets. This Survey is a good time to add onto your original pledge amount at GoSun's very best prices.  You'll have a chance to shop a wide range of GoSun products, much of which will ship before the Holidays.  

 International Backers Shipping Update

Great news! We have found a way to reduce international shipping rates for multiple units.  As this campaign moves to Indiegogo Indemand, you'll see new shipping rates.  GoSun has put the following in place to ensure Kickstarter Backers get the very best deal.

Backers for the Two (2), Four (4), and Ten (10) Flatware pledge levels, who were charged internationally shipping, will receive a large portion of the shipping cost credited to their account on the BackerKit Add-On Survey that will be sent in the first week of December. These funds can then be used to 1) Add more Flatware pieces or 2) Purchase other GoSun products at special Backer pricing or 3) Remaining balance can be refunded.

Campaign Announcements

  • The Add-On Survey will go out during the first week of December and will be a good time to sort out international shipping rates, destination address and increase quantities; plus, you will also get to shop incredible deals on other GoSun products, many of which will ship before the Holidays
  • This campaign is moving to Indiegogo InDemand once finished at midnight EST tomorrow, Friday, Nov. 22nd.  Good deals will continue there but they will not undercut your very best earlybird pricing here on Kickstarter
  • GoSun will continue to send updates here every month regarding Flatware's progress. We have begun tooling and estimated shipping is still planned for February, 2020 but further details are not yet available.

Many of you have been asking if Flatware is strong enough to cut an avocado or spear a piece of chicken, so we've created a video to show a few things it is capable of.  Keep in mind that this is a prototype (since production samples are not yet available), so yours will be even better than what is shown.

Why Flatware?

Hello Kickstarter, only three days to go!  

This is our favorite part of a campaign, the home stretch; it ends at midnight EST on Friday. A time to dig deep, simultaneously working our tails off and celebrating our successes.  This campaign launched 3.5 weeks ago and it has not stopped amazing us.  Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you!

 International Shipping cost concerns?  

GoSun will not charge more than necessary to ship.  If we have overcharged, we will send refunds.  Since international shipping rates are high for multiple rewards, we recommend at least backing the single unit reward level, then during the Add-On Survey after the campaign we will have more accurate shipping rates and you can decide the best quantity then.

Why is it named Flatware?

A lot of people, particularly those under 30, don’t understand why we are calling this product, Flatware.  So, first, the definition and some history for those not familiar:  Flatware -- Spoons, forks, and serving implements used at the table. The term flatware was introduced toward the end of the 19th century. Strictly speaking, it excludes knives, which are classified as cutlery (q.v.), although in common American usage knives are generally included.

For better clarity, we've created a series of images below to demonstrate 1) what GoSun Flatware IS like, and 2) what GoSun Flatware IS NOT like.  

 GoSun Flatware IS similar to: 

a flat ocean on a fishing trip 

a flat belly

a flat screen - you're probably looking at one now

flat bread

Flatfish

Flat Rate Shipping - so we're offering free shipping on a single unit to anywhere in the world

So flat, that it fits into your pocket

 GoSun Flatware IS NOT like: 

a flat tire

Flat Earth - whatever that is 

Flatworms

flat ulence - you have put that together, and yes, it has nothing to do with GoSun Flatware 

Flats, the shoes - if you think they should not be in this category, you’ve never had flat feet 

flat lining - ok, that's morbid, and far from the good life we are striving for

Neither did we give GoSun Flatware its name based on the word "flat" and all its ugly synonyms:  unexciting, uninspiring, unrewarding. bland, boring, drab, dreary, dry, dull, heavy, humdrum, jading, leaden, lifeless, monotonous, pedestrian, ponderous, tedious, tiresome, tiring, uninteresting, vapid, wearisome, weary, wearying. inane. innocuous, inoffensive. mild, soft, subdued, tame, weak.

Nope, Flatware IS AMAZING

....and we think you are going to like it too.  So, next time someone asks you why you're so excited about Flatware, you can refer to this update and tell them:

"Flatware has been another term for silverware for a century, and recently, it was re-invented so that silverware is more like a flat screen TV, compared to the old vacuum tube TV, so you can fit it in a pocket or wallet, that way it is with you wherever you go."  

When they reply, "huh? you do what with a TV in your pocket?"  You simply walk away, while saying, 

"May the fork be with you."  

...and hopefully they will get it.  If not, remember that there's nothing more annoying than a good example.

Flatware's Soliloquy 

This campaign is about a lot more than just a product. At the heart of it, we’re here to clean up the planet and make a better world for future generations. But we realize, to push reusable utensils into the mainstream, we need as many people as possible to start making the shift and adjusting the cultural norm.

Every person who converts to Flatware and leaves plastic behind makes a REAL impact. Think about it this way- every day an estimated 100,000,000 plastic utensils are wasted in the US, about 322 utensils per person, per year.  One set of Flatware can eliminate all of that mess.
